St. Vincent de Paul
Our Student Council welcomed representatives from our local St. Vincent de Paul to our school in January. The Student Council presented them with a cheque for €1,489 from our fundraising activities which took place before Christmas. We are so proud of the children for all their efforts.
Happy New Year
We would like to wish all our students, parents, guardians and staff a very Happy New Year. We hope that the year ahead is full of happiness, health and peace.
Christmas Fundraising for the St. Vincent de Paul
In the run up to Christmas our Student Council wanted to organise a fundraiser to help those in need. A number of charities were put forward from the class council meetings, with St Vincent de Paul being mentioned in almost all. The Student Council took the decision to fundraise for our local St. Vincent de Paul in Fermoy. They held collections at the Infant Christmas Nativity and again that night at the Christmas Concert in our local church. The Student Council also held a very successful and enjoyable bake sale on Wednesday December 20th in our local community hall. The total raised for the St. Vincent de Paul was €1489.00. Well done to the Student Council and to all who donated money and baking. Your support is very much appreciated.

Introducing our first ever Student Council!
Elections for our new Student Council were held on Friday September 29th and we are delighted to introduce you to Scoil Mhuire's first Student Council.
The aim of the Student Council at primary level is to provide students with greater involvement in the decision making procedures of their school and to help them learn about how democracy works. Children are elected by secret ballot and are appointed as representatives for their class to the council for the duration of the school year. This year Scoil Mhuire has representatives from 3rd - 6th class on the council.
Student Councils generally meet several times each term. These meetings are facilitated by a teacher with council representatives collecting ideas and suggestions for the agenda from each class ahead of each meeting. Suggestions are then discussed, prioritised and are brought to the attention of the school’s principal and to staff meetings.
We look forward to seeing what ideas and suggestions our Student Council will have.
