Dear Parents / Guardians,
This is my final newsletter at the end of another very busy and successful year at Scoil Mhuire, Ballyhooly.
The end of the school year is a time to look back with pride and satisfaction on achievements, to bid some sad farewells and to thank everyone for all they have done to make our school such a happy place.
In academic success Scoil Mhuire performs well above the national expectations. We need to look beyond the academic success to celebrate the individual, personal achievements of everyone of our children. All of you have seen your children make significant progress in
areas important to them. These could include bravely standing in front of a group or audience, stretching the hand of friendship, reading confidently with you at home or joining in on an activity. The list is endless and it represents so much to be proud of in 2018 / 2019.
Sport - This year saw the newly formed camogie team play in the final of Sciath na Scol. What an amazing achievement from six weeks training !! Equally the boys were successful in their games. Heartiest congratulations to all who participated in the blitzes and games
throughout the year.
throughout the year.
Garden - We are very proud to receive the gold medal for our school garden and to have been awarded the Green Flag for Biodiversity. Thanks to all who helped in any way to make this possible. The school also received the Discovery Primary Science Award 2019 for class
submissions in Maths and Science. Keep up the mighty work !!
Music -The pupils of Scoil Mhuire displayed their musical talents once again in this last term. The individual class performances were amazing but the whole school performance was incredible. It was truly heart stopping. Congratulations to all the pupils who engaged so
willingly and participated so fully in the singing classes throughout the school.
CAPER – Thanks to our volunteer parents who have listened in class to children reading this year. The success of the initiative does depend totally on parental willingness to become involved. All help is welcome.
A big thank you to the Board of Management for the interest they show, for the time they give, for the expertise they share thus ensuring Scoil Mhuire functions smoothly and happily.
Thank you to the Parents Association who have worked so tirelessly for the school community. The continued support from parents allows us to purchase additional resources for our pupils.
A very special word of thanks to my colleagues. I am extremely appreciative of the support. I have received down through the years. I am so grateful to you for the time you give so generously, the care you give freely and the kindness you show daily which makes working
in Ballyhooly a great place. I thank you for your continued commitment and dedication to deliver a quality educational experience for all who attend Scoil Mhuire. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for the friendships I have forged.
This is also a sad time at the end of the school year as we have to say goodbye to a number of people who are very special in Ballyhooly school community. We shall say farewell to a very talented and enthusiastic 6th class and to all they have brought to Scoil Mhuire. We
would like to extend our very best wishes to them all. We hope that all children and families who are leaving us this summer will look back on their time here with great fondness and carry with them many happy memories.
We also say farewell Diarmaid Ronayne who will be on a career break for 2019 / 2020, to Margaret Sheahan who remains on a job share in Cork city and to Deidre O’Brien, myself, who will remain on a permanent career break !!!!
We would also like to welcome back Breda Fouhy and Orla Geary for the academic 2019/2020.
I would like to wish Rory Gibbons all the best in his new role as Principal in Scoil Mhuire.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the school community of Scoil Mhuire, Ballyhooly for organising an exceptional night to celebrate my retirement. The beautiful decorations, the arrangement of flowers, the array of amazing food and the wonderful company all added to the enjoyment of the evening. It was really lovely to chat with the community and past pupils.
Thanks to you all for your good wishes and expressions of kindness. It truly was a memorable evening and one that I will cherish.
On a final note I would like to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Scoil Mhuire, Ballyhooly. I will treasure the friendships formed, the laughs shared and the memories made.
