5th and 6th class took part in a science fair that took place in Mallow on Sunday the 16th of October. The topic we investigated was; is sugar needed for baking? We did this by picking 5 different treats and cooking them with and without sugar. Our treats were; cookies, shortbread, apple tart, sponge cake and muffins. In groups we cooked the treats first with sugar. We then cooked them again using the exact same recipe but leaving out the sugar. We found that sugar was needed for all our treats because without it they tasted bland, boring and unappealing. We really enjoyed working together as groups and presenting our findings at the science fair.
